You Want It All But You Can't Have It


My kid is currently working his way through the Epic Mickey series, and has there ever been a video game so gorgeous to look at that is so boring to play?  The camera doesn't go where you want it to, the controls are janky, and all you do is paint objects blue or green.  That's it.

I really really wanted to love the first one back in 2010 but I played for a weekend and never went back.

The storyline is right up our alley too-  basically there is a corrupt bad Disneyland called Wasteland where all the forgotten characters go that Mickey and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit have to make right.

 But it's just..so....boring to play.

There are some images that stick with me though, like the Small World clock boss:

and the bit where it's revealed that there are actually many different iterations of Pete, including Peg-Leg Pete, Black Pete, and Small Pete, among others.  But mostly it seems like a wasted opportunity.
