Mickey Was Sixty

Time-Life commemorative magazine "Mickey Is Sixty!" from 1988.  This magazine has been crammed on my bookshelf for the past 33 years, which is why it's so wrinkled.

27 dollars for a VHS tape?

That's more like it.

Most of these movies are still unsung, even in the Disney Plus era. Ichabod Crane and Mr. Toad is more boring than you remember, Three Caballeros still slaps.

Gen Z would 100% wear these clothes today.

More to follow!

SomeBODY once told me the world is gonna roll me

Guys, how good is Mickey All-Stars?

This book is so fun that it makes me angry.

These aren't even like, the best panels.  These are just  panels that I liked when I opened the book to random pages.

I don't think it is spoiling things too much to say that it's 50 pages of  all cute drawings like this.

Every Mouse artist that you like is in this thing.

They are all one-page gag strips, but some of them could support entire comics.

Slacker Goofy is my new Discord Avatar.

Anyways, get this book.  It's only like 15 bucks, you won't regret it.

Vote Quimby

I have gone on the record to say that I don't "get" Chris Ware; one time somebody gave me a copy of Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid On Earth for my birthday, and instead of sending a thank you note I defriended him from Facebook.

But! I'm nothing if not open-minded so I picked up a copy of Ware's own bootleg Mickey Quimby the Mouse, and let me tell you friends, it rules.

This is my new Twitter avatar:

The intro says Ware made most of these strips when he was a young man, and you can tell:

So I would like to formally recant one of my patented comics hot takes and testify to the comics blogosphere that celebrated New Yorker cartoonist Chris Ware is, in fact, good.
