Paranoia, the destroyer

Here's an awesome sorta-but-not-really Bootleg Donald, Destroyer Duck:

Image from The Kirby Museum

For those not in the know, Destroyer Duck was created by Steve Gerber and Jack Kirby, to help Gerber raise funds for his lawsuit against Marvel over the ownership of Howard the Duck.

This article from Comics Should Be Good does a much better job than I can explaining this bizarre comic and the circumstances leading to its creation.

I am a huge fan of both Gerber and Kirby, and Howard the Duck is one of my favorite comics of all time, and yet I've only ever seen one issue of this series. I'm dying to read it, though, especially if it contains scenes like this:

Awesome.

Neither Brave nor Bold. Discuss.

(I know these aren't really Disney, but if you squint real hard you can justify their inclusion here, what with the Marvel merger and the Warren Beatty movie.)

Undercover Brother

Marvel's iconic funny animal Howard the Duck is featured in this week's Comic Book Legends Revealed over on Comic Book Resources.

I'm a huge fan of Howard and his creator, Steve Gerber. If you haven't already done so, you owe it to yourself to pick up the Essential Howard collection...truly one of the great comics of the 1970's.
