Won't be long til summertime is through

Summer's almost over, kids. Fire up the grill, crank that Beach Boys Greatest Hits cd, and pop open a cold one. It's the American way!

Tron-a-Sutra

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Man

Mike Allred is one of my art heroes. Back in the 90's his groovy retro-styled Madman was a breath of fresh air next to all the Deathblood and X-Posse garbage cluttering up the racks. Since then, Allred has continued to grow as an artist and writer, on his own creations and on work-for-hire stuff for DC and Marvel.

In issue #3 of Madman Atomic Comics from 2007, Allred paid homage to his favorite artists (and man, does he have a lot of favorites) by illustrating an issue-long conversation between two characters in the style of comic greats past and present. Among those honored were Popeye creator E.C. Segar, and Mickey Mouse Maestro Floyd Gottfredson:

Here's the complete list of artists whose style Allred appropriated for this special issue:

If you're unfamiliar with Allred's work, I highly recommend you check out one of the Madman/ Atomics collections, or his newest DC Vertigo series izombie.

Not Disney: Happy Monday

Just because:

Mystery Ink

Anybody out there know anything about this DD7 Donald Duckling comic? The Google just takes me to torrent sites, and INDUCKS doesn't turn up anything either.

The comic is cute; it seems like some kind of Muppet Babies/ Codename: Kids Next Door mashup. What country is this book from? Was it a one-shot, or part of a series? Why hasn't Disney Channel tried something like this? MYSTERIES ABOUND
